Music Social Networking Sites - The New Frontier

Bookmark and Share

The social network site has become the shining star of the Web 2.0 revolution. The levels at which users can now interact means an ever increasing number of possibilities for social networking developers. The internet is far faster than it ever has been and with this extra speed comes ever increasing possibilities for media interaction.

But what developments are occurring in the music social networking scene? Sites such as Last.fm are leading the way with interactive playlists based on users own opinions on the genre and nature of the tracks. This results in seamless chains of similar tracks being playable indefinitely, when you utilise the radio option.

Sites like Mufin which take music searching to a new level by analysing individual tracks to calculate percussion, style, speech, sound density, vocals, tempo, sound colour, instruments, volume, dynamics and loudness. This provides the user with a fairly odd mix of similar sounding tracks to listen through and is one of the more unusual social music sites.

There are also sites like Spotify, which lets you listen to music for free courtesy of their exclusive arrangements with the record companies, and sites like Muzu which let you share and compile playlists with friends. Both offer new possibilities in online interaction.

There are a host of other sites which let you find new music in a variety of ways and this is what the contemporary music industry is finally catching on to. Rather than seeing the revolution in online music as something to fear record company bosses are starting to embrace the possibilities and use social music networking as a platform to market, advertise and promote.

But what most modern music sharing sites lack is the virtual world interaction which Web 2.0 is capable of. This is where a site like Mixm8 steps in to fill the void. The Mixm8 format will take social media interaction to the next level with personalisation and interaction between users the likes of which the internet is yet to see. You’ll be free to express your personality, individualism, taste, desires, loves and hates in an online music social network unlike any other!
