Glasvegas in vintage clothes shop

Bookmark and Share

Glasvegas played a secret gig in a vintage clothes shop in their hometown of Glasgow last night (1st September).

The group played to 50 fans in the We Love To Boogie shop in the west end of the city, with hundreds more gathered outside. The locals announced on social networking sites including their Twitter page,  Twitter.com/glasvegas, on Monday ( 31st August) that they were planning a secret gig in their native city, releasing the location of the gig hours before the show.

When they finally revealed the location fans rushed to the venue, resulting in a queue of nearly 600 outside the shop by 8pm.

Unfortunately the shop could only hold 50 people, meaning that many fans were left disappointed and went home before the show started, while others clambered around the windows to get a glimpse of the band inside.

Taking to the stage at 9pm, the show featured just frontman James Allan and guitarist Rab Allan playing together, as they performed tracks from their Barclaycard Music Prize-nominated self-titled debut album.

It was unusually quite for a Glasvegas gig, with many fans silenced by the intimacy of the performance, although ‘Daddy’s Gone’ had the crowd – including those outside – singing along.

“I was drinking in this shop last night and I thought it would be good to play a few songs here,” James Allan announced before playing their set closer, a cover of The Ronettes’ ‘Be My Baby’

Glasvegas played:

‘Geraldine’
‘S.A.D Light’
‘It’s My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry’
‘Flowers And Football Tops’
‘Daddy’s Gone’
‘Be My Baby’
